bearing fruit

Sometimes nature just needs a helping hand. I was very happy to discover that the crab apple flowers cross pollinated with the cut blossoms.

The tree has started to make fruit...some even have a blush to them already.

I found an old photo that I took of the garden last year during the first week of June. When I looked at it, I was surprised to see how much more had been accomplished last year - in comparison to this year. The weather, and other events, have set me far behind my goals. I still need to plant corn and beans and squash and a few other things, that by the looks of last years photo were already growing!

Some things do just fine without any help at all. The asparagus has been wonderful, and the herbs like chive, top setting onions...

.... thyme,

and sage....

have obviously enjoyed the mild winter we had. PS...so have the bugs....

Your garden was beautiful last year Cyndy. You are not the only one that is way behind this year. What with all the rain and cooler weather no ones garden is as it normally is this year. Don't you fret about your garden.

I do hope that things are on a more even keel by now and everyone is well.

I really like the way your garden is fenced. I figure it is because of the critters that you have it fenced. Your little green house is a good thing to have too. I bet you get lots of use out of it.

Seeing your pictures makes me think I should take pictures of our garden yearly to see the differences.

Last year at this time I had a garden party with a friend and I have pictures of everything. We had worked so hard to make all perfect..or as perfect as possible around here. This year we are way behind in that respect too. Having a goal whether it is a party or a visit from a relative as we anitcipate this year makes one get busy. Ha...

Take care and I hope you are enjoying this wonderful weather this weekend.

Same thing down here but the positive side of it is that by the time the other plants start growing the bugs might be gone, ie...potato/cucumber beetle. Also I would rather do the job once than have to replant because of frost. It was only 37 this AM.

Ohhh, those crabapples look so lush in your photos! I hope our family orchard (1000 miles from here...) looks just like that about now. My city slicker brother-in-law is up there this weekend; I'm quite sure he doesn't even know how to look for those pollinated bits!

You know, every year is different in a garden. We've got a great looking spread this year, and far fewer insects (mosquitoes, chiggers, ticks) this time. Our drought last year is probably partly why--but even so, I wouldn't want to try that again to avoid insects! It was horrible...so I just try to look at each season as unique. Our tomatoes have fruit already here!

Thanks for your kind comment on my blog. I am still getting used to the haircut. It helps me to think someone else will feel much less "naked" with some of my hair in her wig.

It snowed in the middle of May - of course we're all behind! I'm even further behind than you, but with a smaller area so even less excuse.

Such a gorgeous overview of 07 garden. It's so inviting!

Every year is different - that's what makes gardening more of an adventure then it would seem.

I enjoyed seeing what the garden lay out actually looks like. Very inspiring.

Beautiful garden! I told SB yesterday that we needed to get the bed ready for tomatoes because I intend to plant some this weekend! We're creating a new bed which will require much digging and hard work but I'm sure it'll be worth it.

There is so much texture in your picture of the sage plants! It's a great shot.
