frozen moments

Many times, when I am observing the river- I think of what Davinci said, "The water you touch in a river is the last of that which has passed, and the first of that which is coming. Thus it is with time present."

Staring at the water, I study the contrast between water in its frozen state, and water in its liquid state. The frozen water accumulates in little lines...time lines...moments where the flowing water stops and freezes...frozen in time. Visible moments.

There are other moments that are frozen in time. Visible moments. I look at the stitches on my needles. They represent the hours, minutes, and seconds of time captured in thread.

Are my thoughts focusing on time because the end of the calendar year is approaching? Probably. There are deadlines to meet.

I should go look at the river near me this weekend. I;ve driven by and there are icy splashes on the shoreline rocks, but I'd like to look closely. Thanks for reminding me.

Lovely photos, and such a contrast to what we experience here! We are comming up to our long hot and dry summer now, so its nice and refreshing to see photos of ice!

Good luck with the deadlines!

Yes, it is that time of year when we are looking back as much as we are looking forward.

That river ice looks cold. BRrrrr

I think reflections like these are a part of the season. The darkening days, an apparent shortness of time.
From now until solstice, it is our nature to look back at the light, not ahead yet, into the light.

I have always had a love affair with the contrast of liquid and frozen water. I *always* have to take pictures even if I've taken nearly the same shot before :-) I love seeing it elsewhere!
