share the road
Last night when I went down to put the chickens away, a few of them weren't in the run yet...so when I went looking for them, I walked up on what appeared to be a stand off. Two hens, a black star and an aracuna, didn't seem to mind the white tail....
One of my cats often has stand-offs like that with the sheep -- she hisses at them, and they sort of sniff her and ignore her which just makes her hiss more -- but they don't seem to understand what the hissing means!
I am just amazed that you can get that close to the deer -- I have difficulty getting that close to my (allegedly) tame sheep...
The videos are good when there is interesting interaction going on...and the "zoom" factor on the camera helps to make it seem like I am very close. My camera allows me to zoom before I start shooting, but once the film is rolling, I have to keep it where it is...
The only time I see the hens get upset about a deer is when they find a fawn "hiding" in the weeds. Then they get all upset, wanting to "tell" everyone ALL about it....oh, and deer and fruit trees?...around here you NEED a fence around your orchard...to keep out the deer and the BEARS. The deer will eat the windfall, but I've seen bear climb right up and break limbs of the apple trees!

I enjoyed the video! You should put videos up on a regular basis, I for one would love to see the animals and the river in motion.

Beautiful video! It did look like you were right with the deer; I was thinking how calm everyone looked; deer, hens and all!
Loved it! I'm going to need your advice on chickens soon. You can keep the deer though. Don't care much for 4 legged orchard destroyers. :)
