gray days

Seems as if this is our 4th or 5th cloudy, rainy, gray day in a row... the river reflects the gray mood, the trees look silver and gray green. I notice lichen everywhere.

On these dull days when I am outside, most of the primary color I see takes the form of cars or houses...but amidst the lack of color there is a type of quiet beauty, serene tones of white, brown, gray, black and green make it easy for my eyes to concentrate on texture and form. It is restful when compared with the multitude of color that the landscape takes in July. So I don't mind the dullness, I rather embrace it...the season will be moving on soon enough.

Some production spinning is underway. It is enjoyable! Who would have thought spinning for speed and consistency would be so fun and challenging? I like to put on some good music and let the wheel roll with it. I keep a watchful eye on the clock, and resist the urge to stop until I have met my quota for the day. On a good day I will spin 4 ounces, but alas, there are other jobs that steal my time....

I've had my fill of these gray days. I haven't seen the sun since last week sometime. Waking up in the morning is like swimming up from the bottom of a very deep pool. You are right though, this weather does draw your attention to nature's details that are easy to miss the rest of the year.

I love the spare, bare bones of the landscape this time of year. I went out looking for color and also turned to the lichen. I have never been able to dupicate the color.

After weeks of downpours we finally it finally snowed lightly almost all morning.

You are a prolific spinner. What do you plan to do with the yarns?

I wouldn't mind a gray day now - am tired of having too many "white" ones. Ick. Want to see the grass again....whaaaa!

I love seeing the bare bones of the trees but I guess I am tired of it now and wouldn't mind some nice crisp white snow instead of mud. There is time enough for mud in April and May. But for you the outside gray should disappear while spinning those pretty colors. I have been spinning browns and grays...I think I need to dye some roving.

I too find that it's when the days are grey and all the leaves are off the trees that I notice more of the tiny details...lichens, mosses and mushrooms.

It's a nice change from the blitz of Spring and Summer color.
