when wheels collide

I have been enjoying some cria from Finca Alta Vista. Meet Violette. Here are some samples that I spun up from the blanket...

spinning cria is a dream!
I'm flicking the locks...

spinning a worsted single on the Ashford Traddy...fine and tight....my work station and assistants seen in the background....

Photobucket

...I am also spinning a lofty woolen single on the Great Wheel...

plying them together in a rather boucle sort of way...on the Quebec Wheel...

Photobucket

and finishing the yarn by fulling and thwacking it to within an inch of it's life on the side of the bathtub.....

Photobucket

...resulting in an amazzzzingly soft and fuzzy...

Photobucket

handspun that wants to be woven on the triloom....at least that is what I think it told me...

I always prep my alpaca fleeces with combs and spin worsted to keep em smooth but you know that fuzzier look is very nice and I might try it. Can you spin alpaca long draw if you comb it?

I meant can you spin alpaca long draw if you card it? I have hand cards.

That is some seriously yummy looking stuff, and I am jealous of your workspace and your assistants.

Interesting thought to spin a single on each wheel. Violet has very fluffy lovely fleece! Maybe it means I need to sit back down to the alpaca wheel again soon...but, the Minor's head for the great should arrive today... So many wheels so little time!

Violet is a perfect name for that Cria. Gorgeous color. I'll bet you are right about that tri-loom. Yummy looking stuff. I card and use a long draw with alpaca. As you have proven, there are many ways to spin a yarn.

That cria handspun is just so lovely and soft looking. I can almost 'feel' it through the computer screen! Can't wait to see it transform into something even more beautiful!

Hi Cyndy, I love seeing your assistants in the background. They look like they are quite busy. They could have a smorgasbord of june beetles if they were in my garden this summer. I have never seen so many flying around.

The fuzzy yarn looks great. It would feel so wonderful to have a shawl made of this. One would feel so warm and cozy with it wrapped around the shoulders. It won't be long and we will wish we had something like that.

Oh, fabulous! I want to spin with the chickens too! (ha, doesn't that sound a bit like "sleep with the fishes"?...)

Never spun cria myself, but after seeing this pictures, I'll be making it a personal goal. I can see why it's called Violette, too. Lovely color! :-)
